Development Services
a

Description
The function of Development Services is primarily to develop the Borough’s natural and built resources in order to add value and improve the overall product. A range of services, facilities and activities are included within the remit and a synopsis is presented below.

The Department consists of over one hundred staff working across four main sections, namely:- ECONOMIC, COMMUNITY, LEISURE and MARKETING. Highlighted below are the broad key areas of responsibility for each section. It should be noted that there is a significant degree of synergy between the various functions.

Development Services covers the following aspects of development:

Economic Development Section
The Economic Development Section is responsible for assisting in the creation of new small businesses, giving development assistance to existing business, promoting tourism, improving retail, promoting self-help and involvement in the Community, providing training to meet skills, needs and demands and to market and promote the Borough as a thriving business location within Northern Ireland and beyond. The main areas of responsibility include:

Community Development Section
Community Services is responsible for the hire, promotion and development of Council owned facilities at Whitehead, Greenisland, Sunnylands and Woodburn, facilities within the Town Hall complex and Council's community development facility at Oakfield. The Section works in conjunction with local groups in helping with applications for Council grant aid funding and other financial funding available from various statutory agencies/funding bodies.
