Smoke Free Environment Information

On the 30 April a new law will be introduced which will affect most businesses in Northern Ireland including factories, offices, bars and restaurants as well as work vehicles and public transport.

The law will also affect enclosed public places such as community and church halls, sports centres, shopping centres and schools. The Environmental Health Section in Carrickfergus Borough Council is available to answer any smoke-free queries businesses may have.
Alan Barkley, Director of Environmental Services at Carrickfergus Borough Council commented, “Smoke-free legislation will affect nearly all businesses throughout Northern Ireland and therefore it is important that we provide help and advice to deal with queries in Carrickfergus The more information we can supply to businesses on going smoke-free, the better prepared they will be for 30 April. Our colleagues in Scotland and the Republic of Ireland tell us that those businesses who were prepared for the smoke-free legislation found the transition easier.”
Seminars have been held in the Town Hall throughout March giving advice to businesses.

The Health Promotion Agency will be posting Information Packs and signage to all businesses week commencing 16 April 2007.
