A Sporting Chance
The Sports Development team at Carrickfergus Borough Council strives to implement an ethos of excellence in sport at all levels. It achieves this by providing everyone with the opportunity to take part in sport at their chosen level, whether player, coach or volunteer.
Our Sports Development team may be able to help you with practical advice and assistance in the following areas:
- where to play a particular sport in the Borough;
- contacts for local sports clubs;
- advice on funding opportunities for sports clubs and sports people;
- how to start a new sports club;
- advice on sport club development, marketing, starting new sections etc.;
- development, advice and opportunities for sports coaches and volunteers; and,
- the Coach Education Programme.

Big Lottery Fund offers active lifestyles grants
The Big Lottery Fund in Northern Ireland is offering grants valued at £2.1 million to increase people's participation in physical activities. Active Lifestyles will make grants for small projects up to £1,000 (deadline 30th June 2006) and medium grants up to £30,000 (deadline 31st January 2006). The aim of Active Lifestyles is to
- increase participation in physical activities;
- create new opportunities to get active;
- open new partnerships; and,
- provide new training and development opportunities.
